10th Annual YogaFestFL, in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
at Huizenga Plaza in Las Olas/Riverwalk
scheduled for February 26, 2022

WHO

The MahaShakti Foundation and has been hosting the annual YogaFestFL event since 2011. Our initial event, YogaBliss in Miami was held at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden in April 2011 – Honoring Earth Day. We had over 500 participants (capacity at the Garden) for a morning gathering and shared yoga with live music while participants shopped and shared community. This was a free event for the community and our amazing sponsors and vendors allowed us to grow to a much larger event in the fall of 2011.

YogaFest1111 was over 11.11.11 and 11.12.11 at International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, FL. Our musical guest was a worldwide famous yoga musician, Jai Uttal, and we had numerous South Florida yoga teachers sharing community on the Polo fields. We had over a thousand participants and sponsors such as The Polo Club, Fiat, Pura Vida Spa, I Love Yoga, and Om Shanti ensured a successful event. 

In 2013, YogaFestFL moved to the Huizenga Plaza in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale on Las Olas/Riverwalk and on 4.20.13 had tremendous success with over 2,000 participants. We shared yoga, music, food, shopping, and community from 9am to 10pm. Twelve elite South Florida yoga teachers from Miami to Jupiter taught classes throughout the day and we ended with concerts and dancing. This has continued to be the theme each year and YogaFestFL has continued to grow each year. We enjoyed the park again on 4.19.14, 3.28.15, and 4.2.16 and each year our vendors were all pleased with the event and our vendor space was 100% sold out.

In 2017, YogaFestFL moved to an earlier February date for better weather and on 2.25.17, we had more than three thousand participants throughout the day. We invited even more teachers and studio owners from the South Florida area and students enjoyed classes ranging from meditation to Chakra Flows to Power Yoga to Acro/Partner yoga. We ended with an amazing drum circle and fire dancing/hooping.

             We continued this tradition and added more speakers and meditation for 2018 and 2019 at YogaFestFL 2.24.18 and 2.23.19. We also allowed high school students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas and School Teachers to be a part of the main stage class. Proceeds from the event (partnered with Yoga4MSD) allowed us to bring our largest group ever on our Community Service Retreat to Costa Rica July 2018 and again in 2019. Furthermore, we worked to train student leaders to teach meditation and yoga all summer during 2018 and 2019 so that these leaders can “Change the World”.  Many of the student leaders went on to teach yoga throughout the year while in high school or while at college – both earning funds and sharing stress management techniques with peers.

             We were excited that our 2020 YogaFestFL event on leap day February 29, 2020 was a success once again.  We added an amazing music act at midday of many of The Colony Yoga “Yoga with Live Music” musicians and had a dance performance from Groovolution Entertainment as well.  Many South Florida studios were present with their owners and top teachers presenting throughout the day.  We enjoyed leaders from Titusville to Miami.  Our vendor space was sold out as usual and thousands enjoyed the day.  Our student leaders took the stage together for “community Salutations” supported by student drummers.  Funds were used for Student Leadership Projects once again with one program to specifically benefit our work with The Milagro Teen Center in Delray Beach FL.

Our event in 2021 was held February 27, 2021 and was limited to participants to be safe under the COVID19 guidelines of Broward County and The City of Ft. Lauderdale.  It was a major accomplishment to be able to host the event and we were entrusted to do so by the City of Ft. Lauderdale given our history.  We were the first event allowed back into Huizenga Plaza and we were 100% successful.  We were able to use the proceeds to return to Costa Rica in July 2021 with our Student Empowerment Retreat.  We are completely grateful to our 2021 sponsors for making the Retreat a possibility.

In 2022 we will once again have safety as our top priority on February 26, 2022 but we are excited to anticipate a higher attendance once again.  The venue is quite spacious and given our 10 year experience with the festival we will increase our capacity and are confident once again via our ticket sales, vendor space and corporate sponsors we will be able to continue funding our programs while maintaining a safe and amazing event.
